Lady Galway Adult Learner Session - 25 September 2025

In our first Autumn session we have chosen the theme… ‘The Art of enjoying Practicing’.

Where do I begin?

How do I decide what is most important to prepare?

How do I create a good routine?

How do I do this and have time to play the music I love within the busyness of my day…. without stress and with enjoyment?

These questions are heard so often amongst players of all ages and levels.

Organisation is the first step.  So shall we get organised together?

In this session we shall divide our practice session together in the following sections:

Tone: Acquiring a beautiful tone - how and what to listen for and work towards each day

Finger and tongue technique:

Smooth finger movements – Improving your position of holding your flute and movement of fingers on the keyboard.

Scales - Playing with clear movements and adding various articulations. Understanding the keys you are working on.

Tonguing - 5-10 minute tonguing exercises, single and double (very important to practice single tonguing as an exercise).

Etude study: How to enjoy and work on the bits that might be challenging

Repertoire:  Choosing repertoire that suits your level.

Practicing and learning how to be aware and engaged within our practice sessions is not always automatic.  Like any technique, practice is a discipline that improves within time.

This session will include Q&A

This session will be recorded and available to view until 25 November 2025.
