The Art of the Song… 

Our first memories of music are hearing a melody, a tune which made us smile from within.  How many of us can today recall a song that has forever stayed with you all these years later?

Our first notes on our flutes were that of a song.  Do you remember how proud you felt as a young child or flutist when you sun or played your first songs (melodies)?

The structure of all music is always based on melody.  Scales are melodies, tone exercises are melodies,  music is melodies. Sometimes disguised but always there…. 

As we delve into this particular session we shall once again play our scales together melodically.

We shall hear your tone exercises played with awareness of the sonorous line, and your favourite melody, song or tune.

The Art of listening

The Art of listening without reservation, without criticism, awareness…..freedom within to create as an Artist.

What are the steps we need to grow to achieve this freedom as a musician and technique as a performer?

• To be a true messenger of the composer using our instruments as the vehicle  of creating beautiful colours, nuances and explosion of sound, in control with fluidity.
• Always hearing the phrase before we play. Knowing where to go, how to get there and what we need to get there, whether it be breath, embouchure, tongue or finger control… it is at your fingertips.
