Lady Galway Adult Learner Series - 11 December 2025

In this particular December session we shall explore some seasonal works of the Baroque era.

When I think of December, the beginning of the Winter season and a celebratory time for all; my mind always goes to the time before the holidays and the music that fills my spirit.   As has been the tradition within the Western world for many years, composers have filled the concert halls, churches and our homes with beautiful choral & instrumental works for a variety of ensembles and soloists.

Frequently referred to as the period of Early Music, this era takes through music composed from the medieval period to the Baroque Era.

Some repertoire, although maybe not specifically written for our instrument have been adapted through the years and many times at the discretion of the composers. Works by composers such as Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel and J S Bach all have been through the ages adapted for our instrument as lie very well one our modern instruments in terms of range, technical ease, colour etc.
